June 4, 2011 Highlights

Crystal, MI - 144 cars graced Crystal Motor Speedway on saturday night sponsored by Six Lakes Auto Parts - NAPA out of Six Lakes, MI and all those men and women did everything they could to give the fans in the stands the best show around.

The Smoker's Club Street Stocks kicked the night off in grand fashion. Mike Vandermark Jr continued to show why he has to be considered the front runner for the street stock championship this year as once again he was the dominant force on the track and brought the Photo's by Lebo number 42 home victorious. A late race caution brought the field together one last time but the field had nothing for Vandermark. JR Schmid finished a solid second, third went to Dave Grega, Kyle Prochazka and Will Stanley rounded out the top 5 while heat races went to JR Schmid, Mike Vandermark Jr, and Kyle Prochazka.

Next up were the Kentucky Fried Chicken Late Models. 20 Lates checked in and all 20 of them were on the line up for the 30 lap feature event. After a rough night on Friday night at the Mt Pleasant Speedway which saw the 6R of Carl Ries very torn up it appeared that the Blanchard native had something to prove and prove it he did with a very convincing feature win. Matt Pickard who finished second was all over Ries for the final 10 laps of the race but Ries just hit his marks lap after lap and was able to force Pickard to accept second place. Mickey Carman Jr was able to hold on to third while Mark Andersen finished 4th and Roger Wing came home in the 5th position. Heat races went to Mark Andersen and Kyle Borgman.

For the first time this season we welcomed the MORA Mini Outlaws to the speedway. Nine of them checked in for this show and a very solid show it was. With a number of new cars but some familiar name from the Crystal family behind the wheel it was eventully a long time MORA driver that led the field to the checkered flag as Doug Roush was victorious over Rod Wiles, Ryan Rekow, and Nick Holden. Rod Wiles was the heat race winner.

The racesontheweb.com Flinn Stocks attacked the Crystal Clay next and the story of much of the feature was Flinn Stock rookie Felicia Rohn. After winning her heart race earlier in the evening she lead a number of laps in the feature before eventully giving up the top spot and coming home in a very respectable 4th. Last weeks feature winner made it two wins in two weeks as Zach Rummer made his way to the Engine Pro victory lane. Rounding out the top five were Garrett Wiles, Chris Decamp, Felicia Rohn, and Matt Daggett. Felicia Rohn and Austin Bean picked up heat race checkered flags.

Chaney Newland worked his way from the 10th starting spot and picked up the win in the Port City Pro Stock 25 lap A feature even on saturday night. Donnie Rohn led about the first half of the event before contact cut a tire on the 65 and that put him in the pits and out of contention for the victory. Ryan Kent held on for second, third place went to Vern Buskirk, Larry Kozloski and Mike Husted picked up top 5 finishes while heat race action went to Mike Husted, Bobby Lynn, and Don Rohn.

Seventeen Engine Pro Pro trucks made the call for the feature event and Carl Thayer picked up his second victory in as many weeks. An early spin put the Ionia native to the rear of the field and with a couple of cautions over the course of the event Thayer was able to slowly work his way thru the field and eventually put himself out front and get the checkered flag. second went to Scott Neiman, Tim Wood, Bob Griffin, and Dave Dancer rounded out the top 5 and heat races went to Carl Thayer and Scott Neiman.

The last event of the night was reserved for the Engine Pro IMCA modifieds. 30 mods were in attendance but only 20 of them would make our 20 lap feature event. As expected the racing was furious all night long and the top dog of the evening turned out to be Chad Wernette. Wernette who used his normal line right down on the bottom of the track was able to stay out of trouble and make his way to the front. With the help of a late race caution Chad was able to reel in the man who led the first three quarters of the show, Myron Deyoung, get around Deyoung, and make his way to the Engine Pro Crystal Motor Speedway Victory Lane. Deyoung finished second, AJ Ward third, Josh Borton fourth, and Melvin Allen grabbed 5th. Myron Deyoung, Jason Borton, and Cliff Denman were your heat race winners.

Next week we will have our make up Yes-To-Kids Night and it will also be Crystals Mmichigan Auto Racing Fan Club Night. Kids rides will start at 6:30 so get out there early and give your young one an opportunity to get up close and person with his or her favorite Crystal Motor Speedway Driver.
