Crystal, MI - Saturday night at Crystal Motor Speedway was the 2011 season finale with the running of the 19th annual Great Lakes Nationals presented by Engine Pro and sponsored by Victor Reinz Gaskets. The event saw 176 drivers and near standing room only crowd brave the chilly evening air to watch the event that would crown the 2011 Engine Pro IMCA Modified champion and see the winner of the event walk away with a cool $3000 winners check.

In IMCA Modified action and the premier race of the night, Myron DeYoung held off a charging Joey Fowler and Chad Maurer take home the giant trophy and the big money. They were followed by Jimmy Hale, Jr., Brody Bowser, Mike Shanteau, Dan Minikey Jr., Robert Hutson, Rusty Zeigler, and Melvin Allen. Bowser and Hale won the B Main features while Tim Lytle, Maurer, DeYoung, and Jerry Hunt grabbed heat wins. The season championship was taken home by AJ Ward for the second consecutive year.

Taylor Wiles grabbed top honors in the Races On The Web Flinn Stock division over Alex Richards, Tristan Winter, Andrew Kaake, Zach Rummer, Tyler McGhan, Jason Playter, Cody Everingham, Paris Richards, and Garrett Wiles. Garrett Wiles brought home a heat win.

The Kentucky Fried Chicken sponsored Late Models went green to checker in a 40 lap shootout with Dona Marcoullier besting Rick Stout, Carl Ries, Rob Taylor, Bob Finlay, Roger Wing, Dean Huizenga, Brad Metzer, Ryan VanderVeen, and Matt Pickard. Pickard also added the B Main to his season’s list of achievements with heat gold going to Keith Gentz, Marcoullier, and Justin Robinson.

Chaney Newland had already secured the Port City Pro Stock title and after a 30 lap fight with Larry Kosloski and Ryan Kent, he ended his season with another feature win. Jacob Headley, Mike Husted, Blake Hollenbeck, Doug McKeown, Sr., Josh Loomis, Derrick Dennis, and Derek Poland finished out the top ten. Kosloski and Mike Husted claimed heat wins.

David Verhaar got out front early and was long gone as he pocketed the Engine Pro Pro Truck feature win over Carl Thayer, Jason Parkhurst, Dave Peters, Robert Griffin, Richard Melton, Tim Wood, David Dancer, Allen Welch, and Ashlee Scott. Verhaar and Scott took heat gold.

A giant field of 30 Smokers Club of Mt. Pleasant Street Stocks was an absolute battle that ended with Mick Latsch besting Mike VanderMark, Jr., Joseph Pomeroy, Dan Hersey, Brook Brasington, Brian Williams, James Prochazka, Chuck Smith, Brooke Ann Brasington, and Matt Kammers. Brasington worked her way into the A Main by winning the B feature with heat victories scored by Latsch, Josh Sternberg, and Smith.

This event marked the end of another successful season at Crystal Motor Speedway. The management of CMS wishes to thank all the drivers, fans, and sponsors for another great season. The next event of note for drivers and fans is the yearly banquet to honor achievements which will be held January 7th. As the event draws a bit closer, ticket information will be mailed to registered drivers and will also be posted on the track website at crystalmotorspeedway.com.
