Catching Up and Getting Ready for 2015

Test and Tune will be April 11th and 12th at the usual 1 PM to 5 PM times. We will continue to use the American Racer 970's and they should be in stock at the track by Tuesday. I would call the track at 989.235.5200 to make sure someone will be there to help you. Ron says he expects that the IMCA Mod tires will be in stock on or about March 20th. He will let me know if and when that is definite.

Opening night will be April 18th at 7:30 PM. Memorial Day Weekend racing will be May 23rd and 24th. The Fourth of July falls on a Saturday and in order to keep from hurting the regular Friday night tracks that surround us, CMS will only run the night of the Fourth. The Government doesn't plan on 'celebrating' on July 6th. The Labor Day Weekend will be September 5th and 6th and finally, the Great Lakes Nationals will be run on Saturday and Sunday, September 19th and 20th.

The 2015 rules packages are here: LATE MODEL, IMCA, PRO STOCK, STREET STOCK, and the GENERAL CMS RULES. The 2015 SCHEDULE IS HERE.

I have or can get you the honest answer far more often than you can get it on FaceBook. You may find this hard to believe but not everything you read on FB is true.

Right about here, I need to apologize for my inattentiveness during the majority of the 2014 season. My wife began to have neurological (brain) issues early in February of 2014 and by the time things got sorted out, things had spiraled out of control and my attention was not on racing. Things haven't improved with her but they have at least stabilized. I will try to do better this season. Without my crew at the track picking up and carrying my load, things would have really been bad. I appreciate the work they did under some bad circumstances.

For those that intend to have minors entering the pits, here is the minor release form to have pre-filled out. PLEASE NOTE! "Legal" people say you need to do one of two things. Fill it out and have it notarized or fill it out but don't sign it until you are at the track so track officials can countersign it. Other forms will be posted here shortly.

Coming "Home"

You never realize how much you will miss something until it isn’t available every time you want to go there. Well, alright, I suppose the proper way to say that is it isn’t easily available when I want to go.

I have been a regular at Crystal Motor Speedway since way back in the early 80’s, first as a fan, then as a car owner, and then as an employee. I don’t have to tell most of you how addictive the track can be. My first extended time away from the Crystal clay was in 2005 when I worked with the ASA series and traveled across the eastern half of America with some really great racers and I got to meet and work with some current NASCAR drivers. It was a real thrill to work with these guys but I can remember looking at my watch and realizing that it was race time at CMS and wishing I was “home.”

I came back to CMS in 2006 and worked two more years but in 2007, I spent half of nearly every week in Florida, coming home to be at the track Friday night for Saturday and going back to Port Saint Lucie on Monday. My wife had already moved to Florida full time and I was commuting each week. It was arduous but I wanted to do it… for that summer. As soon as Great Lakes Nationals was in the books that year, I was gone for the winter.

Since then, I have come ‘home’ for the season opener, around Memorial Day weekend, the Fourth of July weekend, and in August. This year has found me much busier in my new home area and with a business that seems about ready to really break loose. I work with a television station and two radio stations here and we are about to launch our own Roku TV stations… three of them to be exact!

We’ve been testing it the past few weeks (which is why the chat on the ROTW board has been closed) and it seems to be working perfectly. It’s been a ton of work but we think it will be worth it shortly. Two years of dreaming, planning, and work are about to spring to life… kind of like an elephant pregnancy. If all goes as planned, our sports channel, StreamNet Sports, will be available on Roku this week. Instead of watching it live on your computer, you can watch it live on your television.

Getting back to the original subject… coming ‘home.’ All of this stuff kept me from getting back for the season opener, the first I’ve missed in years. I intended to be back for the first race in May but that isn’t going to happen either. I thought I’d for sure I could make it for the Memorial Day weekend but again, I’ve got a schedule conflict with my other businesses.

So what to do? I am looking at coming up on a Friday and leave on Sunday to get back for a Monday meeting. I was explaining this to a friend who promptly asked me why I would travel on such a tight schedule for such a short period of time. The answer is obvious. It’s kind of like going home for Christmas… you just gotta do it. I hope to see you all then!
